Ace Speedway, an ASA Member Track, is ready for yet another friday night of racing action and this week it comes on a very special weekend. With Fathers Day the following Sunday, on Friday June 15th Ace Speedway will feature the 3rd Annual Fathers Day Special presented by Mega Plumbing Services of the Carolinas.
Racing action includes Twin 50 lap races for "The Most Exciting Show on Asphalt" The Dick Shirley Chevrolet Late Models. Also racing in the Strutmasters.com Limited Late Models, Chick Fil A Mini Stocks, King's Auto Salvage Extremes, Superior Trailer Legends and Bandoleros.
Prizes will be given away throughout the night for all dad's in attendance, along with a special visit from the Burlington Royals. Also Friday night will be T-Shirt night with the first 200 fans thru the gate receiving a free t-shirt.
"This Friday's event is going to have a lot of different elements that will make it a special event" said Tyler Williams, Assistant to the General Manager at Ace Speedway. "Not only are the Late Models back for their first race since May 18th, but fans get to see them race twice in one night! Along with the Limited Late Models, Mini Stocks, Extremes, Legends and Bandolero's. Plus we'll be giving away all kinds of prizes for the fathers and the Burlington Royals will be with us promoting their upcoming season of baseball. To say friday night will be awesome would be putting it lightly, I'm a big race race fan and I can't wait to see this show!" said Williams.
Grandstands open at 5:30pm, Practice starts at 5:55pm, Driver's Meeting at 7:00pm, with Qualifying immediately following, First Race starts at 8pm.
-DICK SHIRLEY CHEVROLET LATE MODELS (TWIN 50'S)-
For the first time since May 18th, "The Most Exciting Show On Asphalt" The Dick Shirley Chevrolet Late Models returns to action with Twin-50's lap races. Coming into this friday's race, 2010 champ #88 Dustin Rumley (McLeansville, NC) has been the man to beat. Rumley "The Mcleansville Missle" is the only driver this season with multiple victories (2) and currently holds a 6 point lead over 2-time champ #37 Phillip "Speedy" Faucette (Mebane, NC) who has 1 feature win in 2012. Currently 3rd in the points -16 points behind the points leader Rumley is #82 Barry Beggarly (Pelham, NC), the 4-time and defending track champ and defending ASA National Champion comes into friday looking for his first win of 2012 and is coming off a 2nd place effort on May 18th. 2008 track champ #71 Dean Fogleman (Burlington, NC) is currently 4th in championship points -34 points of the points leader Rumley. #17 Kevin Neal (Winston-Salem, NC) comes into friday 5th in points following a career best 3rd place finish on May 18th.
Add into the mix 2-time champ #14 Rodney Cook (Reidsville, NC), 2009 Limited Late Model champ #4 John Moore (Pelham, NC), 4-time Late Model champ #1 Todd Massey (Haw River, NC), former Limited Late Model champ #85 Bobby Griffin (Eden, NC) and a host of some of the top late model drivers in the region and this Friday's Twin 50's will be some of the most highly cotested races of the season.
"These Late Model drivers put on one whale of a show every time they compete, getting to see them race twice in one night will be an unbelievable show" said Tyler Williams, Assistant to the General Manager at Ace Speedway. "The amazing thing how deep the talent is in the field, even in qualifying the time chart barely has any space between the times. These drivers are some of the best in the business and thats why we call them 'The Most Exciting Show On Asphalt', because their races are unbelievable" said Williams.
-STRUTMASTERS.COM LIMITED LATE MODELS (35 LAP RACE)-
This week the Strutmasters.com Limited Late Models scale back the laps to their usual 35 lap race. On June 8th's Rock 92 night at Ace Speedway the Strutmasters.com Limited Late Models raced a 50 lap main event in the Adams Towing & Recovery/AAA Triple Aces series which saw 2009 champ #23 Mike "Ziggy" Zimmerman (Burlington, NC) take home his first win of the season.
Coming into this friday night the points lead has reshuffled back to 2010 champ #50 Ross "BooBoo" Dalton (Liberty, NC) being atop the points standings. Dalton has 3 wins so far in 2012 and holds a 16 point lead over 2nd place #9 Jason Payne (Haw River, NC). With his win last week #23 Mike "Ziggy" Zimmerman is up to 3rd in points -24 behind the leader Dalton. #6 Dan Discepoli (Greensboro, NC) brought home a season best 4th place finish on June 8th and is currently 4th in points -32 behind the leader, #07 Calvin Meadows (Martinsville, VA) is currently 5th overall in points and the highest ranked Rookie-Of-The-Year candidate in the standings.
-CHICK FIL A MINI STOCKS (25 LAP RACE)
For the Chick Fil A Mini Stocks, its been since May 18th since the last time the 4 cylinder warriors last raced. Last time out it was the #24 of Andrew Durham taking home his 2nd win of the season, the only driver so far to win mutliple races in the division.
Coming into June 15th, the points lead is held by a very familiar name in the Chick Fil A Mini Stock division, 3-Time champ #31 Michael Tucker (Thomasville, NC). Tucker has 1 win and has finished in the top 5 in all 4 races so far in 2012. 2-time champ #49 P-Nut Vernon (Walkertown, NC) is currently 2nd in points -8 behind Tucker. #77 Chris Breedlove (Browns Summit, NC) is currently 3rd in points -28 of the leader. Top Rookie-of-the-year contender #7 Barry Wilson (Stokesdale, NC) is currently 4th in points with #24 Andrew Durham and #08 Wesley Thomason tied for 5th in the standings.
-KING'S AUTO SALVAGE EXTREMES (20 LAP RACE)-
Following June 8th's Rock 92 night it appeared there would be a new winner in the division as #11 Michael Neal crossed the finish line first but following post-race inspection Neal was disqualified, handing the win to current points leader #12 Keith Brame Jr. For Brame it was his 4th victory of 2012.
Brame comes into June 15th as the overall points leader and wins leader and currently holds a 10 point lead over #2 Ben Walker who has 2 wins in 2012. #93 Jake Edgley is currently 3rd in standings following last week's 2nd place effort on Rock 92 night. Defending series champ #7 Barry Wilson is currently 4th in points -74 of the leader Brame, #77 Jerry "Kool-Aid" Kernodle is 5th in points -84 behind the leader Brame.
-SUPERIOR TRAILER LEGENDS & BANDOLEROS-
For the 2nd time in 2012, the Superior Trailer Legends and Bandoleros come to race at Ace Speedway. Under the sanctioning of the Carolina Competition Series the Legends and Bandoleros last raced at Ace Speedway back on April 27th on YMCA night.
On April 27th it was #7 Matt Murphy taking home the win in the Bandoleros followed by #9 Grant Sadduck, #24 Blaise Brinkley and #110 Kade Lambert.
For the Legends on April 27th #17 Dennis Kiser was the winner in the Pro Division, #14 Trey Jarrell was the top finishing driver in the Young Lion division, #89 Zack Sholnick was the top finishing driver in the Semi-Pro Division and #37 John Fargason the top finishing driver in the Masters division.
